Your journey commences at the National Library of Scotland, where you'll delve into the most challenging period of J.K. Rowling's life, her creative journey in shaping Harry Potter, and the inspiring origins of Diagon Alley. Next, immerse yourself in the heart of the historic old town, exploring the gruesome history of public executions, discovering breathtaking views of Edinburgh Castle, and navigating the charming streets to reach Greyfriars Kirkyard, known as one of the UK's most haunted graveyards.
Amidst the eerie beauty of gravestones and mausoleums, you'll meet Greyfriars Bobby, the incredibly loyal dog who stole the nation's heart. You'll also uncover four gravestones believed to have inspired characters in the Harry Potter universe. As you exit the graveyard, brace yourself for more dark tales, this time featuring the notorious Burke and Hare, and the Covenantors Prison.
Towards the tour's end, you'll experience two cosy cafes where Jo spent her early writing days crafting the iconic beginnings of her books. Finally, you'll wrap up the adventure at the City Chambers or Clam Shell, depending on your bravery to sample the deep-fried Mars bar and haggis. Get ready for a spellbinding journey that promises to enchant and delight!

Join us on an all-round, interactive, 2 hour Edinburgh Harry Potter and history walking tour filled with dark tales, J K Rowling’s life and Edinburgh castle viewpoints. Let our expert guide lead the way as you embark on a magical journey through the enchanting Old Town which will bring the streets around you to life through fun-filled storytelling.
The tour will start at the National Library of Scotland where we will discuss the hardest period of J K Rowling’s life, how she began her venture in creating Harry Potter and what inspired her to create Diagon Alley. We will then find ourselves in the heart of the old town, where we will explore the gruesome history of public executions, find one of the most incredible viewpoints of Edinburgh Castle and navigate through the beautiful streets to arguably the most haunted graveyard in the UK, Greyfriars Kirkyard.
